2000 Madison Photofest begins with photographers' exhibit in the city. 2002 Madison Photofest adds a keynote speaker, Keith Carter. 2004 Madison Photofest becomes PhotoMidwest seeking to highlight photographers from the Midwest (Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Missouri) or with Midwest roots. The Center for Photography at Madison and the University of Wisconsin Union Directorate Gallery Committee partner to present a juried seven-state exibit. Keith Carter is the juror and the featured artists are Archie Lieberman and Bea Nettles. Two hour mini-classes are offered and over 80 venues in and around Madison exhibit work by CPM members. 2006 Jill Freedman, Alec Soth and Martina Lopez are keynote speakers. The juror is Catherine Edelman. Workshops are added, conducted by Freedman, Deborah Riley and Doug Beasley. 2008 Keynote speakers are Elizabeth Opalenik, Patrick Nagatani, Virginia Lee Hunter, Danny Wilcox Frazier and Beth Moon. Lisa Hostetler of the Milwaukee Art Museum is the juror. Wilcox Frazier and Opalenik offer workshops and Nagatani offers portfolio reviews.
