Did you ever make a print that was too dark or had the wrong shade of color? This class covers the basic information you will need to make a digital injet print that will thrill you.
Along the way, we will explain those puzzling terms you may have heard and why they are important. Things like, color gamut, ICC profile, and soft proofing. You will learn (among other topics):
- Why it’s important to use a calibrated monitor when editing your images
- How to choose a paper type to enhance your image
- How to print from Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
- Editing adjustments and printer settings to get the image you envision
You will calibrate your laptop display and print images using custom paper profiles on our PhotoMidwest printers. You will leave the class with a handful of beautiful prints and, most importantly, the confidence to make your own prints which you will happy to exhibit. The enrollment includes $15 of printing on PhotoMidwest's printers
Please bring a selection of files which you have already post processed in your favorite image editor. The focus of this class will be on making prints not editing image files.
Please bring your laptop. You will install print drivers to connect with the PhotoMidwest printers. If you own a monitor calibration device (X-Rite model or DataColor Spyder) please bring that with you. If not, we will temporarily install monitor calibration on your laptop to create a custom monitor profile.
If you do not have a laptop computer, PhotoMidwest has a very limited number of computers for in-class use only. If you must use one of these computers, please email Education@PhotoMidwest.Org before enrolling.
Sean Lamb is a professional photographer and current President of PhotoMidwest. He has practiced photography as a hobby since the mid-1970s, with training from UCLA in the 1980's and Madison College in the 2000's (graduating with honors from the Photography program in 2010). In 2012 Sean became the first Google Trusted Photographer certified in Dane County.
Dick is rekindling a passion for photography after a career in analytical chemistry and spectroscopy where he developed instrumentation and customer applications.
Current projects include night sky, outdoor, and off-camera flash photography. He is also exploring digital printing - building on ‘ancient’ experience in the B&W darkroom and experience with instrumentation.
All student cancellations will incur a $10.00 processing fee, which will be deducted from any refund remitted. Cancellations more than thirty (30) days before the start of the first class session are refundable, less the above processing fee.
Cancellations at thirty (30) to fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in refunding half (50%) of the fees except for some classes where this is not feasible due to contractual arrangements with the instructor(s) and/or venue. Such exceptions will be noted in the listing of those classes.
Cancellations less than fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in the loss of all fees. You may arrange to have someone else fill your slot in the class but we must be notified of this substitution as soon as possible. PhotoMidwest will have no involvement in any transfer of funds related to such substitutions. If the slot in the class is not used, we will consider it as a donation to PhotoMidwest and as such, it may qualify as tax deductible.
In the rare case an entire class must be cancelled by PhotoMidwest, all students will receive a full refund. Partial cancellation of a single class session will typically be addressed via a rescheduled session, not a partial refund of fees.
