Course Summary & Description

This class is designed for those photographers considering using Lightroom or just getting started with this software program.  Beginning with an explanation of the Library function, students will get to practice importing photos, establishing collections and folders, and working with keywords plus other tools that make it easy to find photos in the Library.  Moving on to the Develop module, students will learn a basic workflow for enhancing images and a basic knowledge of the various tools that are available in the Lightroom software.  Finally, the class will include a brief discussion of the other modules available in Lightroom.

This class is planned to be a hands on experience; students should be able to bring a laptop computer to class. PhotoMidwest has one laptop computer available for use during this class for an additional $15 (in-class use only). This laptop can be rented HERE.

Students should also have a recent copy of Lightroom available on their personal laptop.  If Lightroom is not currently on their computers, students should be able to download a trial version just before the start of the class that will be active for the period of the class. However, you should check with Adobe as to the current length of the trial, cost of both monthly and yearly subscriptions, and cancellation/refund policies. Students coming to class without a laptop will not be able to get the full benefit from the class.

The class will feature lectures, video tutorials and hands on practice using the software. Upon completion of the class, students should be able to successfully import and catalog photos, and apply basic enhancements to create impressive looking photographs. However, it should be recognized that Lightroom is a very robust program and this class will provide just a basic introduction. Students should plan on additional training to become fully proficient in the use of the program.

John Lorimer is a semi-retired professional photographer who has been shooting weddings, portraits and special events over the past 30 years. He has been a Photography Instructor for MATC for over 25 years and has taught classes at PhotoMidwest for the last 8 years. His classes in Digital Cameras, Photo Editing, Portraiture, Macro, Speedlites and Studio Lighting have been very popular and his students give him high marks for his expertise and presentation style.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY AS OF MARCH 16, 2015

All student cancellations will incur a $10.00 processing fee, which will be deducted from any refund remitted. Cancellations more than thirty (30) days before the start of the first class session are refundable, less the above processing fee.

Cancellations at thirty (30) to fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in refunding half (50%) of the fees except for some classes where this is not feasible due to contractual arrangements with the instructor(s) and/or venue. Such exceptions will be noted in the listing of those classes.

Cancellations less than fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in the loss of all fees. You may arrange to have someone else fill your slot in the class but we must be notified of this substitution as soon as possible.  PhotoMidwest will have no involvement in any transfer of funds related to such substitutions.  If the slot in the class is not used, we will consider it as a donation to PhotoMidwest and as such, it may qualify as tax deductible.

In the rare case an entire class must be cancelled by PhotoMidwest, all students will receive a full refund. Partial cancellation of a single class session will typically be addressed via a rescheduled session, not a partial refund of fees.
