Time & Dates: 12-MONTH SERIES. Starting Wednesday, March 15, 2017, and then monthly every 3rd Wednesday for 12 months. 6:30 pm - 9 pm. Note: Video Conferencing and/or catch-up sessions will be offered to those who may need to be away because of a schedule conflict.

COURSE SUMMARY & DESCRIPTION
This class is designed for those photographers ready to discover what the term ‘masterwork’ means to them and how it applies to their current and future work.
- Use of experienced and talented small salon group
- Choosing a genre and style
- Working with several styles and genres and then selecting one to highlight as a masterwork or portfolio
- May choose, at the beginning, a non-designated number of photographs (1-20) to offer additional flexibility during first few weeks.
- Capturing: Why this subject and relationship building with subject matter.
- Visits to an onsite gallery are by group choice(s).
- Invite group choices of presenters on specific photographic workflow and technical aspects as needed.
- Video Resources/Bibliographies
- Participant presentations utilizing their expertise
- Honest and positive critique (self and group)
- Video conferencing and/or catch-up conversations with facilitator if absence from class site is necessary
IMPORTANT: Before registering, each participant MUST call Don Mendenhall (608) 516-8184 to clarify further if the class matches well with their current expertise and commitment to making a masterwork or masterwork portfolio. The class will feature small group orientation. This approach will allow the unique expertise of each participant to enhance the overall learning and development via an open and guided process.
Philosophy of Small Group Orientation: Small group work (also known as a salon, cooperative, collaborative, learning or peer learning) involves a high degree of interaction. The effectiveness of learning groups is determined by the extent to which the interaction enables members to clarify their own understanding, build upon each other's contributions, sift out meanings, ask and answer questions.
Trust-building: A strong sense of group trust will support each participant’s ability to offer ideas, assessments, and critique that will be both honest and strengthening.
The year-long class will also feature opening presentations and video tutorials to prompt discussion and dialogue. Most importantly this class will involve the full scope of each participant’s photography workflow. Upon completion of each class session, participants will have 30 days to work on the next session’s agenda. All goals and assigned work will deal directly with the primary direction and focus of each participant.
Don Mendenhall is a photographer who has this art form throughout a long career in organizational development and currently shows at several art shows throughout the Midwest region. Don has taught several Photo Midwest and with Peninsula School of Art in Door County. He also coaches photography and helped found the Deforest Photography Group. Don has been very popular and his students give him high marks for his expertise and presentation style.
CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY AS OF MARCH 16, 2015
All student cancellations will incur a $10.00 processing fee, which will be deducted from any refund remitted. Cancellations more than thirty (30) days before the start of the first-class session are refundable, less the above processing fee.
Cancellations at thirty (30) to fourteen (14) days before the start of the first-class session will result in refunding half (50%) of the fees except for some classes where this is not feasible due to contractual arrangements with the instructor(s) and/or venue. Such exceptions will be noted in the listing of those classes.
Cancellations less than fourteen (14) days before the start of the first-class session will result in the loss of all fees. You may arrange to have someone else fill your slot in the class but we must be notified of this substitution as soon as possible. PhotoMidwest will not be involved in any transfer of funds related to such substitutions. If the slot in the class is not used, we will consider it as a donation to PhotoMidwest and as such, it may qualify as tax deductible.
In the rare case, an entire class must be canceled by PhotoMidwest, all students will receive a full refund. Partial cancellation of a single class session will typically be addressed via a rescheduled session, not a partial refund of fees.
By enrolling in this course, you consent to PhotoMidwest taking and publishing photographs of the course, which may include you, in its promotional materials to communicate what our classes, events, and/or facilities are like to potential members. To clarify, PhotoMidwest will never publish photographs YOU took without your specific written permission.
