Location: Classes will be split between nature site locations such as the UW Arboretum and the PhotoMidwest location at 700 Rayovac Dr., Suite 212. ADA accessible. Free parking in the adjacent parking lot

COURSE SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION
Do you love the outdoors and the idea of documenting the beautiful locations, plants and animals that you encounter? From backyard bird watching to visiting waterfalls and mountain ranges, nature photography requires the right gear and approach. In this course, you will get an introduction to the techniques, subjects and photographic process needed to hone your skills in nature photography. Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on exercises, students will develop their outdoor photographic abilities.

Apps is a Pulitzer Prize finalist (team coverage) and nationally recognized sports photographer with more than 30 years of experience as a professional photographer. He is widely published outside of the newspaper industry with nine book credits to him as the photographer. He has taught photography classes at Madison College and the Rhinelander School of the Arts.
Apps’ background in photography has taken him around the country working at newspapers in Florida and most recently for the Wisconsin State Journal where he was the chief photographer/photo editor. His responsibilities over 20 years at the Wisconsin State Journal included taking on photo assignments such as covering the Green Bay Packers and UW-Madison athletic events. As the photo editor he also was involved in all aspects of editorial planning for the daily newspaper, as well as managing photo assignments, editing, leading a staff, and overseeing the photo department budget including freelancers. He has photographed UW athletes, coaches and administration.
His photo of Brett Favre is featured in National Football Hall of Fame and was the winner of the prestigious David Boss Award of Excellence, Pro Football Hall of Fame for the 2007 season and included in the permanent collection. Additional sports photography awards for Apps include Pro Football Hall of Fame recognition in 1997 (Honorable Mention Features), 2001 (3rd Place Features), 2005 (2nd Place Features), and 2008 (2nd Place Action). He has also been recognized with Photo of the Year by the Milwaukee Press Club and Photo of the Year from Wisconsin News Photographers Association.
Apps enjoys traveling and has photographed his mountain climbing adventures, diving trips (underwater photography), and feature photos. He is a sports enthusiast and has run marathons, completed the American Birkebeiner several times, played golf and tennis, swims, and has played baseball and softball.
All student cancellations will incur a $10.00 processing fee, which will be deducted from any refund remitted. Cancellations more than thirty (30) days before the start of the first class session are refundable, less the above processing fee.
Cancellations at thirty (30) to fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in refunding half (50%) of the fees except for some classes where this is not feasible due to contractual arrangements with the instructor(s) and/or venue. Such exceptions will be noted in the listing of those classes.
Cancellations less than fourteen (14) days before the start of the first class session will result in the loss of all fees. You may arrange to have someone else fill your slot in the class but we must be notified of this substitution as soon as possible. PhotoMidwest will have no involvement in any transfer of funds related to such substitutions. If the slot in the class is not used, we will consider it as a donation to PhotoMidwest and as such, it may qualify as tax deductible.
In the rare case an entire class must be cancelled by PhotoMidwest, all students will receive a full refund. Partial cancellation of a single class session will typically be addressed via a rescheduled session, not a partial refund of fees.
