Gene Summer's Countryside Images at Lowell

The Lowell Center photo exhibit on the UW-Madison campus for July and August features the works of Gene Summers, UW-Madison Emeritus Professor of Rural Sociology. It is said by some that the countryside is disappearing. Summers says, "It is not, but it certainly is changing." In this exhibit Summers captures current images of the Wisconsin countryside and mixes them with images from across the U.S. According to Summers, "To appreciate the countryside you have to get off the Interstate, out of your car, and into the countryside itself. Get yourself a pair of good walking shoes."

Future Lowell Center exhibitors include:

  • Sep - Oct 2014: Signature Seven Group (The American Landscape: Seven Perspectives)
  • Nov - Dec 2014: Retrospective-A Look Back Over 5 Years of Lowell Hall Exhibits
